Get Up Get Moving

Do something today that your future self will thank you for. Read that. Take it in. Really think about what that means to you, then really think about whether or not you are actually doing those things.

I get it. Its 7 fucking degrees out. I get it. You are sore or old. Guess what me too. I also know that getting up and moving helps everything from depression, to unwanted weight gain, to consistent sleep patterns to your body recovering faster. The more you do it the better it will be for you.

Everyone is motivated by something different, so finding what truly motivates you will help keep you consistent.

Competency and continued growth is a huge motivator for most people. If this is something that motivates you, coming to the gym is going to be key. Everyday you are here is an opportunity to work towards your skill development and strength. Keeping track of your progress in a notebook (or however you like to track your workouts) will help give you concrete progress. BAM motivation!

A lot of people are also motivated by personal growth, change and power over their own life. If you feel like you are stuck in a situation try using exercise to pull yourself up and out. Doing something good for yourself will give you something to be proud of when everything doesn’t seem to be going your way. Using exercise as a time for yourself or as a time to get away is also great motivation to keep your ass moving.

If you are motivated by incentive then create some for yourself. Give yourself $5 for every day you come to the gym in a given week. At the end of the week do something good for yourself or save it up for something big. For everyday you should have gone and don’t subtract $5. It will be pretty motivating to watch that money for your new shoes or massage dwindle away because you are being lazy.

Take a minute. Really reflect on your life and the excuses you make. Can you really not squeeze in a workout? Our gym has 5am classes and open gym opportunties. Even 20 minutes is better than nothing. Can you really not afford it? Did you go to (enter coffee joint of choice) today and get your favorite $4 coffee? Could you have french pressed some delicious coffee for yourself at home instead? $4 adds up quick!

It saddens me when people say they don’t have time for the gym or they can’t afford it. If you are saying this then you might as well say, “I don’t really care about my health”. A lot of people also say they don’t have time because of their children’s committments. Don’t you want to be the parent that shows their child that exercise is important, no matter what else is happening in your life?

If you aren’t exercising you are missing out on opportunties to:

1) manage your stress levels and keep them lower

2) improve self confidence

3) alleviate anxiety and depression

4) boost brain function

5) make new friends

6) get more done

7) inspire others

8) get sick less often

9) not need medications

10) have a kick ass body

So again I say…Do something TODAY that your future self will thank you for. It’s not just about today. Look at the bigger picture. One small step today will equal lots of bigger steps over and over. Find what motivates you and stick with it. Be proud of yourself today.

Get your ass moving.
